The new Xbox One is looking to be a very disappointing console. Smosh Games goes over the new Xbox and the controversies surrounding it. What are your personal opinions or thoughts on the newest Xbox, and the features they are implementing?

I have a reason to hate the Xbox consoles. I used to love playing on my cousins original Xbox by the way and had a lot of respect for it until it lost that respect. So the hate started in the 360 lifespan. Lets start at the beginning, shall we? First of all, the concept of the Halo franchise was stolen by Bill Gates from Steve Jobs/Apple. It was originally going to be an apple/IOS game. Then the online gameplay began on the 360 with a subscription based community. This drove some original fans away. Halo and GOW were not the only Xbox exclusives by the way. There were at least a dozen other exclusive titles that became busts. The 360 only became popular because of those 2 franchises and CoD. The fact that its more popular doesn’t mean shit. If you go online and check all respective statistics I’ve all the life cycles for said consoles, playstation is much better. Now that Microsoft has unveiled the new console (Xbox One) which has the worst name imaginable, the press conference didn’t even hype up any of the gaming applications of the “console”. The new Xbox to many gamers (even 360 players) are being driven away because the press conference basically sold it off as a glorified cable box with the Xbox logo on it. Another thing is the discs. A disc for a gamer is a thing of beauty, the Xbox One is going to take away that factor of satisfaction that is taking the physical disc and putting it in the port drive. The way the discs are going to basically work is that you go and buy the disc at your local store (I.e GameStop, Walmart, Vintage Stock etc.) you put it in the port drive, it downloads the game and you won’t need the disc anymore. You can do the same thing by just purchasing the titles off the Microsoft/Xbox Live Arcade for about the same price. So in conclusion,Xbox sucks and PS FTW.

Wow, THANK YOU for such a long reply. I never knew about the Halo thing with Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, and you gave me incentive to research it. As a PC gamer, I don’t really have a preference for console systems (I own a 360, but it’s now used for YouTube/Netflix/Movies). If I were to choose, it would be anything old gen, such as N64, PS, SNES, ect. Frankly, I get tired of the ‘console wars’, but that’s mostly because I’m a PC user and -in my own opinion- a good gaming PC can out play a console any day. I just hate the road Microsoft is going down with the next gen Xbox. They should be trying to appeal to more gamers rather than selling their system as a full entertainment package. I’m all for digital games (again, as a PC user disks are a bit obsolete, I use .ISOs and the like), but they are going about it wrong. Why not showcase digital games as being cheaper to manufacture and therefore cheaper to sell? Why not sell games at $30-$40 rather than $60, since they are saving so much on not manufacturing psychical content. 

It’s my firm belief that there should be no blame on a console itself, but the creators of said content. Why showcase how it can watch TV and watch you like a creepy stalker, when they could be showing off its specs (8 gigs ram, 8-core AMD processor and 500 GB HDD, though these specs to me aren’t that impressive) Why not impress gamers by making games a bit cheaper in return for their psychical content being replaced with digital?

I can already see into the future: Microsoft branching off with the Xbox as a ‘family entertainment system’, losing sales from gamers but gaining from families and the like. PlayStation will cater to gamers, unlike Microsoft, gaining most the Xbox players as theirs. And PC’s will still be ahead by a generation or so. 

…If you haven’t noticed, I’m very pro-PC. But again, that’s just me and my opinion. If I can’t open up what I game with to clean/fix/upgrade, then I’m not interested. I can freely open my tower, upgrade my RAM/GPU/whole fucking motherboard if I wanted, while with a system, I can open it but it voids the warranty/can’t be sold anywhere/is pretty much illegal even though I own it.
